Akwaaba!

Greetings from Accra Ghana, the Headquarters of the Diaspora African Forum (DAF), an African Union (AU) initiative officially launched in 2005, just two years before we opened the doors of our Mission. DAF is the first African Diaspora organization in the world with full diplomatic status, granted by the government of Ghana one decade ago, July 2007. We are located on the historic W.E.B. DuBois Center compound in Accra and are open to visitors from all walks and stages of life who are seeking information on returning home or just want to stop by during their visit to Ghana.

You are welcome to get to know us, to celebrate the Decade of DAF with us and equally important, to help us ensure the next decade realizes more gains towards the full integration of Africans returning from the Diaspora intent to accelerate our engagement in economic, social and cultural sectors. Thanks to visitors like you who care about Africa and are truly committed to Africa's development, we are certain to be successful.

As the saying goes, "We are not African because we are born in Africa, we are Africans because Africa is born in us."  So we welcome you to engage, explore and educate yourself about opportunities in Africa. Please consider DAF your bridge home to Africa.

Akwaaba!

Who is the African Diaspora?
Centuries ago, the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade ripped millions of Africans from the shores of the continent, dividing kith and kin, dispersing Africans throughout the Americas and Europe in the worst crime committed against humanity in history. This was the origin of the first massive disbursement of Africans to the Diaspora. The contemporary African Diaspora also includes migrants from the continent over the past decades, seeking opportunities in employment and education, for the most part. The former is our focus, but we work in solidarity with all African at home an abroad whom wish to return home.

The African Diaspora includes those in the Americas, Europe, Australia and Asia which are filled with millions of men, women and youth of African descent with vast experience, education and capacity; many of which, have a desire to return home.

DAF is a bridge between the Continent and her children far and wide.

Cape Coast Dungeons, called "castles", were the places where millions of Africans were held in captivity.  Those who survived, were sent across the Atlantic into a life of slavery.

The Diaspora African Forum (DAF) was established and endorsed as non-governmental organization by the African Union on July 01, 2007.

The Mission was born as a result of the recommendations of the African Union ad hoc Ministerial Committee that, the AU should invite and encourage the full participation of Africans in the Diaspora in the building of the African Union, in its capacity as an important part of the continent.

The Diaspora African Forum Mission is the first diplomatic mission of its kind to be established in Africa and has its headquarters located in Accra, Ghana on the premises of the historic W.E.B. Dubois Centre.

The Mission is opened to all willing individuals and organizations who share in the vision and goals of the Diaspora African Forum Mission.

Mission - DAF’s mandate is to support the African Union (AU) and Member States towards the integration of Africans in the Diaspora while strengthening African Diaspora engagement in Ghana, specifically and continent wide, in general.
